Nick Carraway's lists the names of those who attended Jay Gatsby's parties that summer, then he is picked up by Gatsby in his car to go to New York. Gatsby tells Nick of his past, being the son of wealthy late people in San Francisco, and being educated at Oxford. They go to a small restaurant, where Nick is introduced to a Jewish gambler who fixed the World Series in 1919, Mr. Wolfshiem. Later that afternoon, Nick and Jordan Baker meet in the tea-garden at the Plaza Hotel, where Jordan tells of the past. In 1917, Daisy Fay and Gatsby fell in love, then after he left for war, Daisy married Tom Buchanan. Gatsby requests that Nick asks Daisy to tea, then Gatsby shows up without her knowledge. Nick feels lonely without a girl, so he pulls Jordan close and kisses her.
